Clarification – When the vote was taken 3 or 4 years ago, DBOA voted to leave TASO. When information became available to the DBOA at that time that we would not have the support of UIL or any other organization we (DBOA) sent our money into TASO and have remained with TASO. We have continued to send our money to TASO in hopes that things would get better. However, things only started to change after TASO found that the UIL was willing to help any chapter that voted to leave TASO they are registered with UIL. At this time, the DBOA board feels that those changes are coming too late and that Basketball should govern Basketball. The board also feels that we need to move in the direction of leaving TASO and registering with UIL for the upcoming season. DBOA has had extensive talks with the UIL and TASO to evaluate what direction we should go.
The UIL has stated they will help in any way possible to help those chapters that have voted to leave TASO for the betterment of the sport of Basketball.

TASO
- Has not been organized correctly for the last ten years and possibly for all 32 years of its existence.
- Too much difference in the number of officials in the six different sports.
- Too much uniqueness in the number of officials for each type of sport, size of the crowds that attend non-district and district games.
- Our elected officials (Basketball) were wrongly and unfairly suspended.
- TASO has not attempted to invest in the future of Basketball.

UIL
- UIL does not have all the answers and to begin with cannot answer all the questions, but Dr. Breithaupt has said to others, such things, and I (Mike Slaton and Earl Milner) as 1204 is broken and needs to be replaced of fixed.
- We (UIL) are going to listen to the local chapters regarding their thoughts and input on things such as pay etc.
- WE WILL (local chapters) have input into how the organization will be structured and operate.
One final thought, the DBOA board feels this will be a great opportunity for Basketball to govern Basketball and move forward for the betterment of Basketball, DBOA, and UIL. We believe this would be a partnership, and not adversarial. We do not expect dues to increase in the near future due to this partnership.
